Jeff Gilchrist, MHA, RN, CEN, CPEN, NREMT-P, CCEMT-P is currently serving as the trauma program supervisor for a state verified rural Level IV trauma center in Iowa since 2021.
He began his emergency medicine career in 1997 after taking an EMT class. He was originally supposed to be an elementary school teacher, when he “switched gears” approximately 6 months after graduating from college. Since 1997, he has obtained his Paramedic, critical care paramedic certification, his nursing degree then his master’s in healthcare administration.
Jeff has worked as a paramedic in both rural areas and large cities with experiences as a flight paramedic, Peds ICU nurse, adult ICU nurse and emergency department nurse. He also volunteers with a local rural volunteer fire department as a firefighter/paramedic. He hold a passion for rural healthcare and rural emergency response. He has served on STN’s conference planning committee in the past.
He has been married for 30 years to his wife, they have two grown children and are under the watchful eye of a miniature schnauzer named Lola.
Lysa Mikes, RN is the Trauma Coordinator at a state-designated Area Trauma Hospital in Helena, Montana. A U.S. Army Desert Storm Veteran, Lysa brings nearly 20 years of prehospital EMS experience and 8 years of emergency nursing to her role.
She serves as co-Chair for the STN Rural Trauma SIG, Secretary for the Montana Central Region Trauma Advisory Council (CRTAC), Board Member and Education Subcommittee member for the Montana State Trauma Care Committee (STCC), and Treasurer for the Montana Emergency Nurses Association. Lysa is active in hospital emergency planning, MCI drills, and organizing regional education, including the Rocky Mountain Trauma Conference. Her clinical passions focus on rural system integration, TBI care pathways, and registry integrity.
Outside of work, Lysa enjoys living in Montana, camping, and spending time with her with family and dogs under the Big Sky.
Lori Speir, MSN, RN has been an RN for 28 years and the emergency department was my home for many of those years. My first love has always been trauma. I am currently the Trauma Program Manager and Surgical Services Director at Ashley Regional Medical Center, a Level IV trauma center in rural Utah. I have 3 amazing adult children and since my house was a bit too quiet, I joined our local fire department three years ago.
