Mission:

The STN International Council is a diverse council representing a global membership of trauma nurses whose mission is to ensure optimal and equitable trauma care to all people affected by trauma worldwide. This is accomplished through visionary leadership, focused education, knowledge exchange and mentorship that considers the diversity of each region when implementing actions, performance improvement efforts, and collaboration.

Council membership growth in representation of countries/regions, retention of members, engagement and participation in global trauma efforts, and outreach and support to members across the globe.

Council Description:

The purpose of the STN International Council is to promote international participation and develop resources for trauma nurses to foster STN’s mission to ensure the delivery of optimal trauma care to all people, globally. The council will seek opportunities for collaboration to ensure equitable trauma care throughout the continuum of care across the world.

International Council Duties:

  • Develop the STN International Council agenda, goals, and objectives with direction and approval from the STN Board of Directors.
  • Seek out and promote opportunities for nurse input, collaboration, and participation, globally.
  • Plan, develop, and oversee STN-sponsored education, training, and resources that address the needs of trauma nurses, globally.
  • Collaborate with other STN Councils and other interdisciplinary organizations as needed to plan and execute deliverables that advance global trauma nursing care.
  • Analyze, prepare, and disseminate information related to international concerns to other STN Councils and STN members for the purpose of advancing STN’s mission and member-driven initiatives.
  • Participate in council teleconferences and perform other tasks as assigned by the STN Board of Directors.
  • International Director at Large acts as the Board Liaison and provides reports and recommendations to the STN Board of Directors quarterly and as requested.

Requirements to Serve:

Service is open to Active or Associate STN members in good standing, who meet the following criteria:

  • STN Member in good standing.
  • Council members should incorporate perspectives that represent diverse global cultures and geographic locations.
  • Desire to invest time, talent, and energy to advance council objectives to promote optimal and equitable trauma care across the continuum of care and across the globe.
  • Availability to attend teleconferences at various times of day/night.
  • The ability to allocate up to three (3) hours each month to complete assigned volunteer tasks.

Volunteer for an STN Committee

René Ackermann is a nationally and internationally recognised trauma and emergency care leader with more than 25 years of experience in clinical, operational, academic, and strategic domains. She currently serves as Clinical & Technical Expert for Lenmed Group, leading trauma centre accreditation, transplant programme development, and emergency systems strategy across South Africa and international projects. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Nursing South Africa, Executive Council Member of the Trauma Society of South Africa, and International Council Co-Chair of the Society of Trauma Nurses (USA).
