The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community has been increasingly discussed in the literature addressing healthcare disparities. There is very little knowledge pertaining specifically to the care of transgender patients in the trauma literature. Information about this comes from numerous disciplines including plastic surgery, anesthesiology, general surgery, and nursing. This session will provide trauma team members with the knowledge that enables delivery of gender-affirming care when a transgender patient is encountered.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
- By the end of the session participants will be able to understand gender identity definitions and terminology.
- By the end of the session participants should be able to understand preoperative/postoperative considerations such as: the importance of self-identification, hormone therapy, laboratory values, and psychosocial elements.
- By the end of the session participants will gain knowledge on anatomical considerations for transmen and transwomen during the initial trauma survey.
Members who are logged will be provided with a CE Credit link (below) for the duration of 3 years from the original presentation date (noted above). After 3 years, CE will no longer be made available. Members however are still welcome to watch the presentation independently for non-CE credit.
