PI - Data Collection & Analysis

The Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) has established a Trauma Performance Improvement Special Interest Group (Trauma PI SIG), designed to bring together STN members who are responsible for trauma performance improvement initiatives within their institutions and/or interested in advancing trauma PI best practices.

The Trauma PI SIG actively collaborates on initiatives that advance trauma performance improvement and data quality across the continuum of care. Current efforts include partnering with the National Trauma Data Standard (NTDS) workgroup to recommend revisions to the definition of delirium for the 2027 NTDS Data Dictionary. The group serves as a forum for discussing data collection challenges, sharing best practices, and providing peer support to members involved in trauma PI and registry operations. Through engagement with STN members representing trauma centers of all levels, whether ACS verified or non-verified, the SIG identifies opportunities to improve data quality, gathers feedback on abstraction and performance improvement processes, and advocates for practical solutions that strengthen the reliability and meaningful use of trauma data nationwide.
