The Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) has established a Trauma Performance Improvement Special Interest Group (Trauma PI SIG), designed to bring together STN members who are responsible for trauma performance improvement initiatives within their institutions and/or interested in advancing trauma PI best practices.
This Benchmarking & Performance Metrics subgroup aims to assist trauma centers move beyond data collection toward using it strategically to drive measurable improvement, focusing on identifying, standardizing, and applying meaningful metrics that allow trauma centers to benchmark against national standards, peer institutions, and their own historical performance. Current work includes developing a shared library of core trauma PI metrics and definitions, reviewing best practices for risk-adjusted benchmarking (including TQIP data utilization), and building tools to help programs track performance over time and present findings effectively to leadership and trauma committees.
