International Committee
Mission:
The STN International Committee is a diverse committee representing a global membership of trauma nurses whose mission is to ensure optimal and equitable trauma care to all people affected by trauma worldwide. This is accomplished through visionary leadership, focused education, knowledge exchange and mentorship that considers the diversity of each region when implementing actions, performance improvement efforts, and collaboration.

Committee Description:
The purpose of the STN International Committee is to promote international participation and develop resources for trauma nurses to foster STN’s mission to ensure the delivery of optimal trauma care to all people, globally. The committee will seek opportunities for collaboration to ensure equitable trauma care throughout the continuum of care across the world.

International Committee Duties:
- Develop the STN International Committee agenda, goals, and objectives with direction and approval from the STN Board of Directors.
- Seek out and promote opportunities for nurse input, collaboration, and participation, globally.
- Plan, develop, and oversee STN-sponsored education, training, and resources that address the needs of trauma nurses, globally.
- Collaborate with other STN committees and other interdisciplinary organizations as needed to plan and execute deliverables that advance global trauma nursing care.
- Analyze, prepare, and disseminate information related to international concerns to other STN committees and STN members for the purpose of advancing STN’s mission and member-driven initiatives.
- Participate in committee teleconferences and perform other tasks as assigned by the STN Board of Directors.
- International Director at Large acts as the Board Liaison and provides reports and recommendations to the STN Board of Directors quarterly and as requested.
Requirements to Serve:
Service is open to Active or Associate STN members in good standing, who meet the following criteria:
- STN Member in good standing.
- Committee members should incorporate perspectives that represent diverse global cultures and geographic locations.
- Desire to invest time, talent, and energy to advance committee objectives to promote optimal and equitable trauma care across the continuum of care and across the globe.
- Availability to attend teleconferences at various times of day/night.
- The ability to allocate up to three (3) hours each month to complete assigned volunteer tasks.

Volunteer for an STN Committee
Helen Jowett is an accomplished Trauma Program Manager at a Level 1 Paediatric Trauma Centre where she has achieved extensive experience in the field of trauma care and management. Together with her passion for improving patient outcomes and ensuring the highest standard of care, Helen has dedicated her career to advancing trauma programs and implementing best practices in the healthcare industry over nearly 30 years.
Beyond her daily responsibilities, Helen is actively involved in many trauma organisations and is the Past President of the Australian and New Zealand Trauma Society as well as the International Director with the Society of Trauma Nurses and chairs the International Committee where she displays an unwavering dedication and commitment to excellence.
Helen has a strong educational background and is currently working towards her Masters of Traumatology. She is a senior ATLS Coordinator with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, a Senior ETM Coordinator with Emergency Trauma Management and is the lead for the Australian & New Zealand Trauma Nursing Group. This together with her combined years of practical experience, has equipped her with a deep understanding of the complexities and challenges involved in trauma care. She has played a pivotal role in developing comprehensive trauma team training programs for healthcare professionals, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to handle trauma cases effectively.
Helen is passionate about trauma quality improvement and has recently become the first Australian trauma nurse to be endorsed as an instructor of the Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) by the Society of Trauma Nurses.
Helen is a strong advocate for collaboration and interdisciplinary teamwork. She has fostered effective partnerships to create a seamless continuum of care for trauma patients. Her role on the Trauma Verification Committee at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons together with the many site visits that she undertakes to assess trauma centres equips her with the skills and knowledge to fully understand and contribute to the development of trauma systems across Australia, New Zealand and beyond. Her well-developed communication skills and ability to build relationships have been instrumental in driving these successful collaborations.
