Suicide rates have risen dramatically over the past few years.It affects all ages, races and socioeconomic status. Suicide has become a major public health concern. It leaves us with the question: Whose problem is suicide? This presentation will increase awareness, identify ways to reduce stigma, and challenge the learner to explore personal values related to suicide. Each one of us can make a difference and save a life.

  • Increase awareness related to suicide
  • Identify risk factors
  • Explore personal beliefs on Suicide
  • Review Suicide statistics
  • Identify what individual states are doing related to suicide

Laura Walker, RN, BSN, EMT, CFRN started her career in EMS at the age of 17 at a volunteer service in a rural community. She continued on to nursing school and has over 25 years’ experience in ER, Critical Care and Flight Nursing. Her current role is Injury Prevention/Trauma Education at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw Michigan. She has been a charge nurse, staff educator and instructor of multiple courses. Her most proudest accomplishments are her two children- Chase and Kyle. In her downtime, she loves outdoor activities with her husband Steve and reading a good book ... at the beach.
