Members of our community are needlessly dying. There has been a dramatic increase in gun violence victims at an urban-suburban trauma center in Nashville, TN. We will demonstrate the need for and importance of Hospital Violence Intervention Programs (HVIP) to a community’s health. The speaker will show how to develop a comprehensive HVIP pilot at your institution and showcase how this injury prevention initiative could have long-term benefits for your community.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define what a Hospital Violence Intervention Program (HVIP) is
  • Illustrate the increase in gun violence nationally and its effects on trauma center volumes
  • Demonstrate the need for and importance of Hospital Violence Intervention Programs (HVIP) as an Injury Prevention initiative in trauma centers
  • Identify steps for how to develop a comprehensive HVIP pilot at your trauma center

Speaker(s):

Allison Kiser, MBA graduated from Ball State University with a BS in Health Sciences in 2016 and recently graduated with her MBA from Western Governors University. She has worked in multiple facets of healthcare including non-profit operations and clinical research at the University of Virginia. She is excited to work on hospital violence intervention programs to better her community. Allison currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee at Skyline Medical Center as the Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator.
