Elizabeth Atkins, MSN, RN, TCRN
Executive Director, Georgia Trauma Commission

Responsibilities: As Executive Director for the Georgia Trauma Commission, I oversee the flow of $23M state funding to Georgia's trauma system, primarily for emergency medical services, trauma/burn centers, the statewide trauma quality collaborative, and regional trauma system development. The statewide quality collaborative comprises Georgia's thirty-five trauma centers (levels I – IV, adult, and pediatric) and includes two burn centers. I support regional trauma system development across Georgia's ten emergency medical service areas.

Past Experience: Before joining the Georgia Trauma Commission, I served as Executive Director of Trauma and Burn Services at Grady Memorial Hospital, an ACS-verified Level I trauma center, and ABA-verified Burn Center in Atlanta, Georgia. I have over 35 years of progressive clinical leadership experience in pediatric and adult trauma, cardiac, critical care, and flight nursing. I earned an associate degree in nursing from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA, and practiced critical care nursing in the northeast before relocating to Atlanta in 2005. I am a graduate of the Duke University master's program in nursing and healthcare leadership. My Duke capstone project led to the development of a novel approach to statewide trauma center performance evaluation, which has been put into practice within the Georgia Trauma System and is still in existence today. I served as the 2017 Finance Fellow for the Trauma Center Association of America (TCAA), completing a chapter on trauma center programmatic staffing for the TCAA Finance Manual. I have been an accreditation site reviewer for the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation since 2017.

During my four-year tenure with the Georgia Trauma Commission, Georgia’s trauma system has grown by 10%, with five trauma centers in the pipeline progressing toward trauma center designation. Last year, Georgia’s trauma system successfully achieved dedicated funding through the establishment the Georgia Trauma Trust Fund. Staying true to my roots in trauma performance improvement, I have a strong drive to improve quality across the continuum of care. I have broken down long-standing silos in our state system by reaching across inter-agency lines to achieved strategic alignment for the future of our trauma system.

Statement of Intent: I am seeking the Board of Directors, President-Elect position. Having been actively involved with STN since 2009, I have served in a variety of capacities over the years. As a late bloomer, in terms of leadership, my first administrative role was not until 2008. I have successfully led state, regional, and national interdisciplinary committees and matrix structures through complex projects, an essential skill for supporting and expanding existing organizational collaborations with the STN. The STN is fortunate to have a long history of talented leadership, resulting in a solid financial position and a trajectory of growth and prosperity. My experience in strategic planning and budgeting in some of the most challenging fiscal environments can ensure future financial viability.

Motivation: Like many STN members, I found my path to STN through ATCN. Education is vital to the STN’s mission of ensuring optimal trauma care for all people globally. For much of my clinical career, I was fortunate to work in some of the most well-resourced academic programs on the East Coast. My experience as a pediatric flight nurse transporting critically ill and injured children across Georgia and bordering states gave me a sightline into the challenges of healthcare in the rural environment. It became evident that an organized system or care network was necessary to achieve optimal outcomes.

As my trauma leadership career advanced, I became interested (and slightly obsessed) in all things associated with trauma systems. I enjoyed overwhelming support from my academic level I center on my involvement in trauma systems, co-leading efforts to formalize our statewide quality collaborative. When the opportunity for a system role presented itself in 2019, I was equally excited and terrified of what life outside the hospital's walls, my comfort zone, would be like. Until I left my hospital-based role, I grossly underappreciated the disparate nature of our trauma system. As I spent more time in the rural areas of our state with the leaders and staff in our rural trauma centers and emergency medical services, I gained clarity and found my purpose. No matter how heroic the efforts at the level I academic center are, critically injured patients from rural, underserved areas have little chance of survival without education, resources, and an organized network. Over the last three years, my work focused on advocating for rural underserved communities by understanding the challenges and barriers of teams working in austere environments and working collaboratively with them to ensure we can meet their needs where they are as opposed to what we (urban academicians) think they need.

I’m grateful for the exceptional opportunities I’ve been afforded and thankful that I took that bold step forward into the unknown because it helped me find my passion in advocating for the underserved. One of my priority goals would be to ensure inclusivity for limited-access populations and the providers who serve them. As your STN president-elect, I promise to continue to be that voice for the underserved. I will take those bold next steps to propel the organization forward to meet the trauma care needs of all people.

Past and Current Participation Activities with STN: I found my way to the STN through Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN), becoming faculty within a year of my initial provider course and, ultimately, course director. I was a member of the STN annual conference planning committee from 2011 – 2017, serving as a Co-Chair from 2012 – 2013 and Chair from 2013 – 2015. In 2017, I was appointed STN liaison to the ACS Committee on Trauma (COT) Education Pillar. Through the liaison work with the ACS COT, I had the opportunity to participate in the COT Systems Committee White Book revision workgroup. I have served on the STN Board of Directors as Director at Large for education 2020 – 2023 and Treasurer in 2023.

Tracy Cotner-Pouncy, MSN, RN, TCRN
Senior Director, Trauma Services, North Region, UCHealth

Responsibilities: I currently serve as a regional director for Trauma Services for the North Region of UCHealth, overseeing one Level I trauma center, and three Level III trauma centers. I facilitate regionalization of trauma policies and protocols, performance improvement processes, the trauma registry, and injury prevention, outreach and education efforts.

Past Experience: I have been in trauma center management for over 20 years. I started my trauma career as an emergency room nurse at a Level II trauma center in Texas. I followed that by working as a Trauma Designation Coordinator for the Texas Department of Health. I served as the Trauma Program Manager for the military Level I trauma center in San Antonio for ten years, then became the Sr. Director of Trauma Services for the Level I Adult and Pediatric trauma center in San Antonio for ten years. I have been in the regional trauma Director position in Colorado for the last two years.

Statement of Intent: I am ending my first term as Director-at-Large for STN and I have learned so many things about the organization. I feel like I am just starting to get my feet under me in this role and my term is up; therefore, I am seeking an additional term as Director-at-Large so that I can continue to serve my trauma nursing colleagues.

Motivation: I have always been a proud member of STN and it has been my privilege to serve in a leadership role. My motivation is to work with my trauma colleagues to continue to advance trauma nursing and the care of injured patients. My goals are to continue to support the committees that I have been working with as a liaison to the board, and to work on ways to connect with more trauma nurses across the nation and internationally.

Brody Eick, MBA, BSN, RN, CCRN, CEN, TCRN
Director of Trauma Services Eisenhower Health

Responsibilities: I am currently the director of trauma services for a large not-for-profit facility in Southern California. I am building a trauma program from a state designated level 4 to a level 3-N ACS verified trauma center from the ground up including starting a registry, PI program, and system wide trauma education for the nursing staff, residents, and attendings. We have aspirations of progressing to an Adult and Pediatric Level 2 ACS verified trauma center in the future as well.

Past Experience: During my career, I have spent the majority of my time at the bedside in the critical care and Emergency Departments of Adult and Pediatric Level 1 trauma centers across the country. I have held positions as Trauma Nurse Clinician, fixed wing and air search and rescue flight nurse, House Nursing Supervisor, Trauma Educator, and most recently I am the Director of Trauma Services at a large not-for-profit facility in southern California. Prior to my nursing career I was the Director of Behavior analysis and Behavior rehabilitation for a non-profit organization that served the adult developmentally and intellectually disabled population.

Statement of Intent: I am excited to be considered for a director-at-large position with the Board of Directors for the Society of Trauma Nurses.

Motivation: We have had such amazing leadership from the president and board members of the STN for as long as I have been a member. I want to continue that tradition by bringing a new set of eyes and ears to the group. The STN is already establishing itself as the professional home for trauma nurses, but we have a lot of room for growth in the retention for our bedside nurses. My goals, if elected, are to expand our reach to the bedside nurses by focusing on engagement and education opportunities. Also, I am asked often by Pre-hospital providers about becoming a member for the networking and education opportunities so I would also like to ensure that our non-nursing colleagues know about their options for becoming a member and ways they can contribute.

Past Experience on Governing Boards/Committees: I was lucky enough to be selected as one of the inaugural item writers for the Trauma Certified Registered Nurse exam by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) at its inception. After my first year as an item writer, I was invited to progress to the Exam Construction and Review Committee that oversees the validation and relevance of all exam content. After 4 years on the ECRC I was elected as a member-at-large for the Board of Directors and I am finishing my first two-year term in 2024. It has given me great learning opportunities and the ability to help drive a passion of mine, nursing certification. I have also served on facility and system- wide Magnet committees throughout my career at different hospitals.

Past and Current Participation Activities with STN: During my time as a member of the STN, I have had the privilege of being an active member on the membership engagement committee and I stepped into the role of Chairperson for this committee 4 years ago. We have renovated and re-established the mentor/mentee program for our members and we are offering clinical journal clubs and town hall discussions for our members to network and share their experiences. I have been attending the STN's TraumaCon consistently over the last 6 years and each year I look forward to the networking and seeing the friends and family I have made during my time with the STN. I plan on continuing to contribute to the Society in new avenues as long as I am able.

Paula Halcomb DNP, APRN, ACNS-BC, FCNS, TCRN
Clinical Nurse Specialist, University of Kentucky Hospital

Responsibilities: I am the CNS for the Trauma Emergency General Service Line at UKHC. We are 1050 bed level 1 trauma center. I oversee nursing practice, monitor nurse sensitive indicators (NSI), and oversee and drive practice and performance improvement initiatives. I work in real time with the nursing staff and providers to ensure quality care for our patients. I work collaboratively with the trauma program office staff on performance improvement, education, and harm prevention. I am involved in nursing and enterprise level committees and work on many multidisciplinary team projects enterprise wide.

Past Experience: I have been a nurse for over 30 years and was a staff nurse in the trauma ICU for many years before going back to school. I have experience as a patient care manager, working in hospital capacity command, interventional radiology and have been faculty at the UK college of Nursing since 2005.

Statement of Intent: I have been involved, in some way, with trauma patients most of my nursing career. I am passionate about trauma prevention, patient care and would love to serve the Society of Trauma Nursing. I am committed to service for STN and am passionate about the organization.

Motivation: I am currently involved with the Research Committee and would love to serve in a larger capacity. I am committed to responsibly and consistently serving the Board in any capacity asked.

Past Experience on Governing Boards/Committees: I am on the Research Committee at STN, as well as the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists. I have been the President of the UK College of Nursing Alumni Association and still serve as a board member. I have been the Vice -President of the Delta Psi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society. I serve as an abstract reviewer and have served on the planning committee for the NACNS conference.

Jonathan Messing DNP, MBA, ACNP-BC, CCRN, TCRN
Nurse Practitioner, Inova Health System

Responsibilities: I am my health system's surgery service line advanced practice provider manager. This role splits my time between supporting nurse practitioners and physician assistants across our five hospitals and multiple ambulatory care sites. I maintain my clinical practice with the surgical trauma intensive care unit at our level I trauma center.

Past Experience: I have worked as a trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care nurse practitioner for over ten years. Throughout my career, I have continuously gravitated towards supporting advanced practice providers and leadership. I created my previous organization's first residency-style post-graduate training program for NPs and PAs, and, more recently, my current organization's first transition-into-practice program for new graduate NPs and PAs. Earlier this year, after completing my DNP and MBA, I started a new position as the surgery service line APP manager for my health system. I enjoy working with front-line clinicians, caring for acutely injured and critically ill patients, and supporting healthcare business operations. I believe these interests pair well with the needs of STN.

Statement of Intent: I seek the director-at-large position to continue supporting this incredible organization's mission, vision, and values. I believe in the work STN does around advocacy, injury prevention, leadership, and clinical performance. The organization’s thoughtfulness around promoting DEI and incorporating it across all strategic initiatives aligns well with my values, and I hope to continue to strengthen these initiatives. The nurses within this organization are some of the strongest and most influential people I have encountered in my career. Serving on the board allows me to serve the membership most directly.

My history with the organization, which spans over a decade, demonstrates my commitment and willingness to serve the membership. I have contributed to STN committees, partner organizations, and journal publications. I have actively engaged in annual conferences as a speaker, moderator, and judge. I believe in STN as an organization and wish to help guide the membership forward as a director-at-large.

Motivation: As a former board member, I am familiar with the challenges our organization faces. I know sacrifices are necessary for the good of the organization while constantly navigating the changes that a board member’s role demands. I believe my experience as a member pairs well with my DNP and MBA preparation to serve our membership.

Heather Sieracki, MSN, RN
Trauma and Forensics Director - Temple Region, Baylor Scott, and White Health

Responsibilities: I am currently the Trauma and Forensics Director for Baylor Scott and White in Temple, Texas. I oversee Level 1 (State and ACS) and Level II Pediatric (State and ACS) Trauma Centers and a stand-alone Forensics Program. This includes operational, financial, and administrative responsibility for these three programs. The forensic program includes a Forensic Program Manager and four Medical Directors. The program covers care for sexual assault, domestic violence, strangulation, and non-accidental trauma patients for our city and the surrounding communities.

Past Experience: During my career I have held a variety of positions in trauma centers ranging from level IV critical access hospitals to level I trauma centers. I began my career as an EMT and shortly thereafter pursued nursing. In nursing I started out as a medical-surgical nurse, then transitioned to regional float pool, the Emergency Department, and ultimately trauma. I worked as a Registrar, Trauma Coordinator, TPM, and VP of Trauma prior to assuming my current role of Regional Director of Trauma and Forensics.

Statement of Intent: As a new trauma nurse, I was blessed with mentors who encouraged me to seek opportunities for growth to improve trauma not just within our hospital, but throughout the nation. This 2-year appointment as a Director-At-Large for STN will allow me to continue on this path and collaborate with experts in the field who serve on the board. It will also allow me to contribute to the board by sharing what I've learned throughout my career at varying level trauma centers and mentoring new trauma staff to continue advancing trauma care globally. I look forward to working together to develop innovative ways to support future growth and strategy plans for STN, ultimately advancing trauma care through research, mentorship, injury prevention, education and collaboration.

Motivation: There are several motivating factors to join the STN Board of Directors. STN has a strong Mission and Vision that I agree with and would like to help support and promote. The board consists of members who are positive role models in trauma and experts in the field that I admire and strive to work along-side to learn from and share knowledge with. Diana Skaff, Dr. DBA, MBA, BSN, RN
CEO Octahedron, FZ-LLC

Responsibilities: I am a Doctor of Business Administration in Healthcare Management, and a Program Evaluator. I take on projects in the Gulf and the MENA Region in healthcare education, Academic affairs, and healthcare management, through my company which is located in UAE. Through this position, I am exposed to trauma systems and work as a consultant with health authorities for the improvement of trauma delivery. I also do Life Development Coaching where I coach and train healthcare providers (among others) in different aspects of their lives, namely in their career advancement, and professional growth. In addition, I am Doctoral Student Mentor and I work with Doctoral students in their Doctoral study, from the prospectus till their graduation.

Past Experience: I worked in multiple roles, from RN at bedside care (medical, surgical, oncology, surgery, and emergency), to a specialized emergency and trauma nurse, Trauma program coordinator and then trauma education program director, Manager, administrative supervisor, acting ACNO, and consultant. Throughout these roles, I worked in international accreditations (JCIA, and Magnet), healthcare education, and professional development.

Statement of Intent: I am motivated, knowledgeable, and prompt in my responses. I pay attention to details and I know I can serve the board in this position. I am organized, and a good communicator, and am proud of the strong and close relationship I have with many STN members in the world.

I feel that this position is the right position for me to start with STN's board. Being an international member, I think I can add value to this role and allow STN's board to have more diversity and inclusion. I honestly felt that I had the right to nominate myself for this position, being an international member, and not be limited to only be able to join the board in the international director-at-large capacity. STN is growing and is being more inclusive and open to have others on the board, I just felt like I belong to this family, and I feel very comfortable assuming the Secretary role, especially that my work is all with documentation, writing proposals, conducting studies, and leading projects.

Motivation: Whether I am in a secretary role, or international director, or any director-at-large position, I want to be able to have a chance and an opportunity to join the STN's Board, and learn from the board members and serve the STN on an international level. I will abide by STN's bylaws, and will always respect all the members, and work to help everyone to the best of my capabilities.

As a secretary, I will have to support all the board members, and I am passionately willing to do so, and to be able to work with many entities to learn more about the US practice, and get more involved and learn from your experiences, to see how I can support my region as well.

Past Experience on Governing Boards/Committees: I have not been on the STN board yet. I am an active member of the Leadership Development Committee, and act as its liaison in the CEPU committee. I am also an active member of the International Committee. I am an ATCN director as well, and I have contacted Mike and Carry to participate in the ATCN's manual revision. I am also a reviewer in the JTN.

Past and Current Participation Activities with STN: I was the first ATCN National Director in Lebanon, where I promulgated the course. I trained many directors and coordinators in Lebanon and the MENA COT Region. I have been involved in other Chapter's promulgations and am still mentoring many faculty in the region. As I mentioned in the previous question, I do allocate around 4 hours a week for STN. I am currently working on 3 major projects for STN:

• In the LDC, I am developing with 2 members a unique course for business proposal writing where I take over the education part from business perspective, given my business acumen, and where we will work with the attendees to have a complete business proposal that they will use in their jobs.
• In LDC, I started a systematic review on Trauma-Informed Care, recruited a Librarian, and gathered the reviewers from the LDC to co-author. We hope to have results by the next TraumaCon
• I translated the GTQI to French, and am now working with a professional translator to have the GQTI in Arabic.

Jill Volgraf MSN, RN
Director, Trauma Operations Temple University Hospital

Responsibilities: I am currently the Director of Trauma Operations at an adult Level 1 accredited trauma center and verified adult burn center. I am responsible for oversight of the program, including registry, research, and PI efforts, as well as our grant funded hospital-based violence intervention initiatives.

Past Experience: I have been employed by Temple University Hospital since I was a graduate nurse in 2003. I started in the ED and transitioned to the trauma program as a trauma clinical coordinator (PI) in 2010. I became the TPM in 2014. In 2017, I began the oversight of our surgical APPs—including trauma, SICU, ACS, CRS, and burn. In late 2018, the burn program came under my portfolio as we began to standardize the programmatic aspects. Once the burn program was more structured and had completed a successful verification cycle, the roles were again separated.

Statement of Intent: I am seeking a continued director at large position on the board of directors for the Society of Trauma Nurses in an effort to continue the development of key initiatives important to our members.

Motivation: Society of Trauma Nurses has given me great opportunities throughout the years, and I am trying to give back. The ideas and information shared with me have helped me grow professionally and allowed me to improve the programs I am a part of. I think there is always more work to be done to improve outcomes, patient care and staff growth and I would like to help. I would like to continue the work of getting more trauma nurses involved in STN by working to identify valuable efforts for the group at large. By working to make those ideas into workable projects we can continue to offer our current and future members resources to continue to allow them to grow professionally.

Goals if elected include the continued development of resources available to our members by the ongoing development of the online library, webinars, and conference initiatives. I will work to continue the Society's ongoing efforts to be an inclusive community where all members are seen and heard.

Statement of Intent: I would like to express my strong interest in the position of International Director with the Society of Trauma Nurses. As an experienced healthcare professional with a passion for trauma care and a deep commitment to global healthcare improvement, I would appreciate the opportunity, to continue in this role for another term, where I can contribute my skills, knowledge, and passion, to achieving the Society of Trauma Nurses vision, mission and goals.

My 30-year career in nursing and healthcare leadership has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities in trauma care, both domestically and internationally. Over this time, I have had the privilege of working alongside like-minded dedicated professionals who have shared my passion and commitment to improving trauma patient care and outcomes along the continuum of care. These experiences have given me a unique perspective on the multifaceted nature of trauma care and the need for innovative solutions.

Some key areas where I believe I can make a significant impact as the International Director are:

• I am dedicated to fostering global collaboration among trauma care professionals worldwide. I envision the Society of Trauma Nurses playing a pivotal role in connecting trauma nurses, sharing best practices, and facilitating international partnerships that enhance the quality of care for trauma patients everywhere.
• I am committed to advancing trauma nursing education and training on a global scale. I will work tirelessly to develop and promote educational resources that are accessible to nurses in diverse settings, ensuring they have the knowledge and skills needed to deliver high-quality care.
• I recognize the importance of advocacy in shaping trauma care policies and protocols. I will actively engage with policymakers and healthcare organizations to advocate for evidence-based practices and research initiatives that improve patient outcomes.
• I am deeply committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the field of trauma nursing. I will work to create a welcoming and inclusive environment within the Society of Trauma Nurses, reflecting the diversity of our global community and fostering equitable opportunities for all trauma care professionals.
• I will actively seek partnerships to support the Society's international initiatives. This will allow us to expand our reach and impact, ultimately benefiting trauma patients around the world.

In conclusion, my passion for trauma care, my experience in healthcare leadership, and my dedication to global healthcare improvement align perfectly with the mission of the Society of Trauma Nurses. I am excited about the prospect of contributing to the society's important work as the International Director and am eager to collaborate with the board, members, and partners to advance the field of trauma nursing on a global scale.

Motivation: I have been a member of the Society of Trauma Nurses, International Council since 2017. In 2019, I was nominated to be the inaugural Chair of the STN, Global Trauma Quality Improvement Taskforce and in 2022 I was elected as the International Director-At-Large. I am deeply passionate about trauma care and have a strong desire to contribute to the advancement of trauma nursing on an international scale. With extensive experience and dedication to the field, I believe I am well-suited to continue in this role and together with the International Committee I believe we can make a significant impact.

My goal will be to foster greater collaboration and networking among trauma nursing professionals internationally. Together, with the International Committee I will continue to work diligently to establish connections with trauma nursing associations and organizations worldwide, creating a platform for the exchange of knowledge, best practices, and resources. Through these connections, we can strengthen our collective ability to provide exceptional trauma care. The International Committee through our Global Trauma Quality Improvement initiative has translated the World Health Organization, Trauma Quality Improvement program into 7 languages to date.

Another goal is for the International Committee to further develop and promote educational resources that cater to the specific needs of nurses in various regions, ensuring they have access to the latest evidence-based practices and professional development opportunities. The committee has undertaken a review of the World Health Organization, Basic Emergency Core Course. Our plan is to translate this into the main international languages for dissemination in lower- and middle-income countries that currently lack access to equitable resources for education.

I will advocate for the advancement of trauma nursing as a specialty, promoting the importance of recognition and professional development of trauma nurses internationally.

The International Committee has recently undertaken an International Survey of Trauma Nurses. We will analyze the results and share the findings with the wider STN and international communities in the coming months. We are aiming to gain valuable information from our international nursing colleagues, so that we can accurately and appropriately direct our goals and activities to meet their needs.

As the International Director, I will advocate for the interests of trauma nurses at international forums and within healthcare policy discussions. I believe the International Committee can positively influence policies and guidelines that shape trauma care, advocating for standardized practices that improve patient outcomes and safety.

I am dedicated to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion within the Society of Trauma Nurses and the field of trauma nursing as a whole. My goal is to create an inclusive environment that values and celebrates the diverse perspectives and experiences of our members. Through initiatives aimed at diversity and inclusion, we can better address the unique healthcare needs of diverse patient populations.

I will engage with STN members from around the world, addressing their needs and concerns, and promoting their participation in STN activities. This may involve organizing international member forums, facilitating communication and collaboration among members, and the potential development of international chapters or affiliates of the STN into the future.

In conclusion, my goal as the International Director of the Society of Trauma Nurses is to lead with vision and purpose, advocating for the advancement of trauma care on a global scale. I am committed to working collaboratively with the society's members and partners to achieve these goals and ultimately improve the lives of trauma patients worldwide. Together, we can make a profound difference in the field of trauma nursing and ensure that every patient receives the best possible care, regardless of where they are.

Responsibilities: My responsibilities include oversight of the hospital admitting services to include trauma.

Past Experience: Over the past 28 years as a nurse, I have served in many aspects of trauma from the prehospital setting as a flight nurse, Emergency Department, Neuro/Trauma ICU, and Pediatric ICU. I have spent the last 18 years overseeing the trauma program in the system where I work. I am excited to share my experiences in trauma with all healthcare providers and enjoy providing educational opportunities to EMS, the community and to nurses dedicated to caring for trauma patients.

Statement of Intent: As I look back over my career as a nurse, I have served in many aspects of trauma nursing. Providing care as a trauma nurse, we provide the best care for those that need us in times when they need us most. As a leader in the organization, I would advocate for the trauma nurse across the continuum as well as provide mentorship to new nurses at the bedside and new to STN. I will strive to continue to build alliances in order to collaborate with nurses providing trauma care from the bedside to leadership positions.

Motivation: One of the goals I have if elected, is to search for new ways to provide support for the organization's mission and vision. I feel it is important to encourage diversity across the continuum of trauma care not only to our members but also to our community. I would strive to encourage membership to include not only memberships across the United States but international as well.

Kristen Chreiman, MSN, RN, CCRN-K, TCRN
Trauma Program Manager, University of Pennsylvania Health System/Penn Presbyterian Medical Center

Responsibilities: I have been a Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Nurse for over 28 years. During that time, I have held several leadership positions. I am currently serving as the Trauma Program Manager at a busy academic urban Level One accredited trauma center. In this role, I am directly responsible for trauma program operations including the Penn Acute Care Education, Trauma Registry, and Performance Improvement programs, Business Development, and Injury prevention/Outreach activities. Regionally, I was elected and serve as the treasure for the Pennsylvania Trauma Nurse Advisory Council and am a member of several local and state committees.

Past Experience: Previously, I directed the Trauma Network for The Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care and Emergency Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Health System in Philadelphia, PA. My responsibilities included oversight of Trauma Network affiliates, spearheading new business development, Trauma Registry & Data Analytics as well as orchestrating program operations for Emergency Surgery Service within the Division. Formerly the Director of Operations, Strategic Initiatives for the Department of Radiation Oncology, I successfully leveraged strong business acumen to oversee network practices (8), new Proton center development (2) and strategic affiliations for global initiatives (4). Two professional accomplishments I am most proud of include, being on the team that engineered a strategic partnership between U.S. Navy and Penn Medicine to embark on a training and sustainment program and, re-locating our existing trauma program from its original location of 25 years to a new hospital one mile away. I previously held the role of On-line Editor for the Journal of Trauma Nursing (JTN). This role supported STN’s strategic goals by modernizing and redesigning digital social media content to expand engagement and readership for the Journal. I continue to advocate locally, regionally, and nationally for violence prevention and recovery within the community and workplace. Our trauma program recently was awarded a total of 4M in grant funding from the state to assist in the pursuit of these efforts. In pursuit of performance improvement for my own practice, I enrolled in a DNP program focusing on executive nursing leadership and continue as an ATCN course director and BCON instructor. In keeping with the academic mission at Penn, I was able to author numerous publications in peer review journals on the topics of vascular access, video review, performance improvement, and emerging technology.

Statement of Intent: It has been a true honor to have been elected and serve for the last 5 years as a Director-At-Large for the STN Board of Directors. During this past term I have had the privilege of serving on the Executive Committee to the Board, a liaison to the Leadership and GAP Committees and Injury Prevention SIG. Additionally, I continue to participate in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee as a committee member. Recently, was asked to spearhead a group of national nursing leaders to create recommendations for Trauma Registry best practices. This collaborative effort, which was endorsed by several national trauma organizations, was shared by STN as a position statement and can be found on the website. Currently, I am co-leading a group of nurses with trauma leadership expertise to create a new Advanced Trauma Program Manager Course to facilitate the growth and development of those functioning in this unique and vital role.

Our nurses need strong leadership now more than ever to motivate change and advocate for safety, equity, and wellness. If elected to the position of Secretary, I will continue strive to stimulate the development of crucial skills essential to the role of the trauma nurse to ensure the delivery of clinical excellence in trauma care. It is my personal goal to continue to become more adept as a nursing leader and advocate for environments that foster the delivery of injury care.

Motivation: During my time as a member of STN, I have been inspired by committed people to step out of my comfort zone and embrace the energy in new experiences, stretch my own boundaries, and make new network connections. I am asking for your vote to continue to partner with you and my fellow board members in a new role that will allow me to continue to advocate and help lead important initiatives to fulfill the strategic plan we set in motion. Through thoughtful innovation we can find new ways to advance knowledge in trauma care across the globe, lead teams to build a more resilient workforce, reduce community interpersonal and workplace violence, broaden our inclusivity and diversity and drive excellence in trauma care delivery. Nurses are leaders. No matter what position we hold, we all share in an obligation to lead well and support those recovering from trauma.
