"Safe Surroundings: Preventing Violence and Promoting Peace Community by Community"
Because supporting violence prevention efforts is more important now than ever, the American Trauma Society (ATS) and the Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) selected Safe Surroundings: Preventing Violence and Promoting Peace Community by Community as the focus of the 2022 National Trauma Awareness Month (NTAM) campaign. Safe Surroundings is timely and relevant, given the documented rise in violence throughout the nation, impacting trauma centers, providers, and the citizens they serve. This year’s committee chose four areas on which to focus prevention efforts, including:
- Intimate Partner Violence
- Firearm Injury Prevention
- Mental Health Awareness
- Community Violence Intervention

We urge you to start planning activities and make this year’s celebration the best one yet!
