9:00 AM – 10:15 AM SIG & Committee Session 1


8:00am 10:15am: ATCN Committee
ATCN recently released the new 8th Edition course in conjunction with the newly released 10th Edition of ATLS. Many trauma nurses and ATCN course sites have a lack of knowledge related to the new format and content. In this session, Participants will gain knowledge and understanding of the changes to ATCN with the new 8th edition.
Outcomes:
  1. Describe content changes in 8th edition ATCN.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of changes to 10th edtion ATLS/8th Edition ATCN course format and agenda options to facilitate ATLS and ATCN program transition from previous editions.
  3. Describe lessons learned from course sites that have already transitioned to 8th Edition ATCN.
8:00 AM - 10:15 AM: International Council
The International Council is comprised of STN international members from all over the world. The council is chaired by the International Director from the STN Board of Directors. The council focuses on providing resources to international members including programming and other educational materials that are beneficial for the level of training needed in their respective countries.

9:00am 10:15am: Geriatric SIG
The Geriatric SIG will review all aspects of the three geriatric sub groups: developing a geriatric program, geriatric injury prevention/falls, and geriatric guidelines.

9:00am 10:15am: Advanced Practice SIG
The Advanced Practice Nursing SIG is open to all members with an interest in APNs and trauma.The goal of the SIG is to address the needs and concerns of trauma advanced practice nurses. Each year during TraumaCon the APN SIG offers educational content with one CME provided for attendees. In addition, an overview of the SIG as well as opportunities for collaboration and participation by interested members will be discussed.

  • Managing Delirium in the TBI patient
The Society of Trauma Nurses is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.This session has been awarded 1.0 contact hour.

9:00am 10:15am: Membership and Marketing Committee
This committee identifies member needs and provides additional member benefits to meet those needs. As a result, the committee has launched several programs to enhance member benefits such as the mentorship program and monthly webinars. The committee also focuses on the marketing plan for the organization.

10:30 am-11:45 am: Injury Prevention SIG
The Injury Prevention SIG is for nurses interested in and responsible for outreach and prevention. We hope to hear successful models from those willing to share, and lofty ideas from those willing to shape them into a comprehensive injury prevention program promoted by STN.

10:30 am-11:45 am: ATCN Open Forum
This is an open session to any attendee wanting more information about the ATCN program, or has any questions about the program as a student, instructor, coordinator or director.

10:30 am-11:45 am: Leadership Development Committee
The members of the Leadership Development Committee work to keep the engagement of longtime association leaders through the establishment of the Speakers’ Bureau.The creation of the Leadership Externship Program gives an emerging leader the opportunity to participate in committee activities and create his or her own path to future endeavors and a leadership role in STN. A central focus of the committee is the establishment and continuous expansion of the Leadership Institute.

10:30 am-11:45 am: Pediatric Committee
The Pediatric Trauma Committee is a very active group of pediatric trauma nurses and trauma nurses interested in the care of the pediatric trauma patient.The committee will focus on providing resources as identified in the strategic plan and creates action plans to implement those resources.

10:30 am-11:45 am: Government Affairs/Public Policy Committee
Hon. Kim Moser, Kentucky House of Representatives, Chair, House Health and Family Committee
Attendees will be familiar with the basics of advocacy and developing coalitions around policy issues.They will hear first-hand from a nurse that transitioned into public service through appointed and elected positions.

The mission of the TOPIC committee is the ongoing assessment of the continuum of trauma care with a structured review of processes and discussions of strategies to monitor trauma patient outcomes.

This pre-conference session will enhance your skills for successful abstract development and poster design for submission to professional conferences. It includes both didactic learning and interactive workshops to provide the backbone for abstract structure and content as well as how to translate an abstract into an engaging poster.This session will include tips for presentation of an accepted abstract/poster at a national conference. Make sure to bring your abstract/poster drafts if you have them or use one of ours.

This four hour workshop is designed to inform participants on the components needed to build and sustain a strong Injury Prevention Program. Evidence based information on interventions and prevention strategies will be discussed. Available resources and potential opportunities for collaboration will also be reviewed. Key performance indicators will be discussed and identified as well as metrics to use for measures of success.

Learning Objectives:
  • The background history of Injury Prevention, including the Haddon Matrix and its impact in the field.
  • Prevention and Intervention: what’s the difference (screenings: Alcohol and PTSD)
  • Brief overview of the determinants of health as it relates to injury / Population health: socio-economic , geographics and other demographical information
  • Community Assessments and SWOTs: how to use them for injury prevention
  • Creating and sustaining community partnerships
  • Injury Prevention in the organization:
    • The Trauma Division
    • Other organizational stakeholders
  • Advocacy / Funding / Research: the impact and importance for injury prevention
  • Key performance Indicators for Injury Prevention
  • Perspectives from new and seasoned Injury Prevention Coordinators: Personal Accounts of what worked and didn’t. Stories from the participants
    • How to create and maintain sustainability

Hosted by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN)

All attendees are welcome to attend this special event. Learn about the TCRN Certification and network with nurses who have obtained the TCRN certification. STN thanks the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing for their continued support of STN initiatives.
