Kirstie Bingham has been the trauma program manager for 17 years at St. Cloud Hospital, an ACS verified Level II Trauma Center. Prior to that position she worked in injury prevention and the trauma registry. She is the past Minnesota STN State Director. She has extensive experience in the development of the state wide trauma system as a member of the state Trauma System Development Taskforce and as a consultant of the Minnesota Department of Health Trauma Planning Subcommittee. She has been a site reviewer for the Minnesota Department of Health State Trauma System since 2006. She is the current chair of the Central Minnesota Regional Trauma Advisory Committee. Trauma education is a passion as demonstrated by her involvement as a TNCC instructor for 19 years, past Emergency Nurses Association State Trauma Committee Chair, past Minnesota Central Chapter President and speaker for several trauma venues across the region. |

Angela Boy, DrPHProgram ManagerChildren’s Healthcare of Atlanta Atlanta, GA Angie Boy, DrPH is the Program Manager for Prevention and Education at the Stephanie V. Blank Center for Safe and Healthy Children at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. In this role, she oversees prevention efforts specifically related to issues around child abuse and neglect including physical child maltreatment, sexual abuse of children, teen dating violence and the effects of partner violence on children. Prior to joining the Blank Center for Safe and Healthy Children, Dr. Boy was the Project Connect Coordinator for the GA Coalition Against Domestic Violence where she was responsible for coordinating Georgia's participation in a national project designed to train healthcare providers on the link between domestic violence and women's health. Dr. Boy obtained her doctorate in public health with an emphasis in maternal and child health from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. |
Christine Cutugno, PhD, RNAssistant Professor Graduate Specialization Coordinator - Clinical Nurse Specialist program Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing 425 East 25th Street New York, NY 10010 Dr. Christine Cutugno has spent her entire career in critical care and emergency nursing. For the last four years she has been an assistant professor and the graduate specialization coordinator for the Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist program at Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing in New York City. Among other courses, she has been teaching a graduate trauma nursing elective. Prior to moving to academic education, Dr. Cutugno held nursing administration, education and staff positions in large medical centers and trauma centers in New York and New Jersey. She has been awarded a number of grants for her current research studies in geriatric trauma. |
Kim Dokken, RN, BSN, MSN, MBATrauma Program Manager St. Rose Dominican Hospitals – Siena Campus Henderson, NV Kim Dokken is an experienced trauma nurse, critical care nurse, and educator in rural and urban areas. Her clinical experience includes over 26 years of surgical, trauma/emergency and critical care nursing as well as ED and ICU Management. She has been a trauma program manager for 13 years, including American College of Surgeons verified trauma centers. Kim is responsible for all aspects of providing optimal care for injured adult and pediatric patients. This includes performance improvement activities, financial accountability, legislative initiatives, education and outreach. Kim has been a long time member of ENA, a TNCC instructor and State Trauma Chair. She has been a member of the Society of Trauma Nurses for the past 13 years and is a member of the conference committee. She is an active member of the Nevada Regional Trauma Advisory Board, assisting in developing and maturing the regional trauma system in Southern Nevada. |

Karen Doyle, MBA, MS, RN, NEA-BCSTN 2013 President VP Nursing & Operations University of Maryland, R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center Baltimore, MD With twenty eight years of nursing experience, Karen has served in a variety of executive roles in women’s and surgical services as well as trauma and emergency nursing. Karen currently serves as the Vice President of Nursing and Operations at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Shock Trauma is the nation’s first integrated trauma hospital and is one of the largest trauma treatment and research centers in the U.S. Karen also serves as the Vice President of Nursing and Operations for Adult Emergency Nursing at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). Karen Doyle’s transformational leadership style and business acumen have been instrumental in the success of several key initiatives, including the expansion of the trauma/critical care/emergency service, the successful Nurse Magnet application for UMMC, the relocation and building of a 250 bed acute care hospital, and the development of a surgery/obstetric/gynecologic hospitalist program. Karen is co-investigator on a research grant funded by the American Organization of Nurse Executives to study the effects of nurse manager leadership development on patient outcomes and nurse satisfaction. She frequently speaks on issues of civility and workplace violence. Karen graduated from the University of Maryland, School of Nursing as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and achieved an MBA from Loyola University, Baltimore. She is a graduate of the 2010 Greater Baltimore Leadership and a 2011 Weinberg Foundation Mission Scholar. In 2012, Karen flew with the US Navy Blue Angels Key Influencer Program during the “Sailabration” of the anniversary of the War of 1812. In addition to her clinical and administrative responsibilities, Karen also serves as adjunct faculty at the University of Maryland, School of Nursing and is President-Elect of the national Society of Trauma Nurses. |

Prior to this position she was ND State Trauma Coordinator for 7 years and the Chair Elect for the National Trauma System Managers. Amy has experience in all aspects of trauma system planning and performance improvement development. She helped to implement a state and regional performance improvement process involving all hospitals within North Dakota. Amy served as a team member for the ACS Trauma Systems Consultation Program and remains active as faculty for TNCC and the Rural Trauma Team Development Course (RTTDC). Amy is a current board member of the ND Trauma Foundation and a member of the STN, ND ENA, and ND EMS Association. Amy serves on many committees throughout the state of North Dakota and has been involved in many legislative activities in regards to enhancing the ND Trauma System. |

He is also Program Director for General Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, and Acute Care Surgery. In addition, Dr. Fildes is Medical Director and Chair of the Department of Trauma at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas where he also serves as Vice Chief of Staff. He has been practicing in Las Vegas since 1996. Dr. Fildes completed his residency in General Surgery at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital in Bronx, NY (1982-1987). He completed his fellowship in Trauma, Burns, and Surgical Critical Care at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL (1988-1989). Dr. Fildes has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching and the Dean’s Distinguished service Award (2007). He was named the Physician of the Year by the Nevada State Medical Association (2006) and by the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce (1998). He was selected for the prestigious Foundation Professor’s Award from the University of Nevada (2012). Dr. Fildes has been active in the American College of Surgeons (ACS) since 1992. He has made significant contributions to the creation of the National Trauma Data Bank® (NTDB®) and the Trauma Quality Improvement Project® (TQIP®). He was appointed Chair of the ACS Committee on Trauma (COT) (2006-2010 and he is currently the Medical Director of Trauma Programs in the Division of Research and Optimal Patient Care at the ACS. Dr. Fildes has been active with the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) since 1994. He serves as Chair of the Committee on Acute Care Surgery and is the founding program director of the nation’s first approved Acute Care Surgery Fellowship at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. |

Dorrie K. Fontaine, RN, PhD, FAANDean, School of NursingUniversity of Virginia Medical Center Charlottesville, VA Dr. Fontaine’s contributions to trauma nursing and to nursing in general are vast and worthy of many commendations. She has her roots in trauma nursing and spent five years as a staff nurse at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Dr. Fontaine has also been a Trauma Contributing Editor to Critical Care Nurse and she is the co-author of the grant that funded the Trauma/ Critical Care master’s program at the University of Maryland School of Nursing, which began in 1982. Dr. Fontaine’s leading research and seminal nursing work on sleep, “Sleep in the Critically Ill Patient,” was conducted in a trauma setting. She has also conducted research on family presence at the end of life, which many of us have implemented at our bedsides. Dr. Fontaine received her BSN from Villanova University, a master’s degree from the University of Maryland, and her PhD from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. In 2006, she completed a Management and Leadership in Education Program at the Harvard Graduate Institute of Higher Education. Currently, Dr. Fontaine is the dean of the University of Virginia School of Nursing. Her primary focus has been in promoting healthy workplace environments, building more inter-professional collaborations, and increasing diversity in both the faculty and student populations. |

Jennifer Fritzeen, MSN, RN, PCNS-BCChildren’s National Trauma Center Washinton, DC Jennifer Fritzeen is the Trauma Program Manager at Children’s National Medical Center, a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in Washington DC. Prior to her position in trauma, Jennifer has held CNS positions in Pediatric Intensive Care, Pediatric Emergency Departments and a Pediatric Burn unit both in Washington DC and Indianapolis IN. As a CNS she has developed an expertise in process improvement and change implementation. Jennifer has published in the area of Family Presence during Resuscitation, and Emergency Department Throughput. She is currently a co-investigator in a HRSA funded study to develop and implement of a checklist for trauma resuscitation. |
John Gallagher, MSN, RN, CCNS, CCRN, CEN, RRTTrauma Program Manager Traumatology, Surgical Critical Care and Emergency Surgery Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Philadelphia, PA Mr. Gallagher is the Trauma Program Manager for the Division of Traumatology, Surgical Critical Care and Emergency Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was previously the Clinical Nurse Specialist for the Surgical/Trauma ICU and has practiced in a variety of critical care settings, including the Trauma Resuscitation Area and Trauma ICU, General Surgical ICU and Emergency Department. He is a Registered Respiratory Therapist and has practiced as a Paramedic in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Mr. Gallagher is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, as well as the Society of Critical Care Medicine, Nursing Section, and a past-President of the Pennsylvania Trauma Nurse Advisory Council. His areas of clinical interest include Trauma, Acute Lung Injury/ARDS, mechanical ventilation, sepsis and endpoints of resuscitation. |

Thomas A. Geng, Jr., DOTrauma and Surgical Critical Care The Reading Hospital & Trauma Center Reading, PA Dr. Geng is a trauma and surgical critical care physician at Reading Health System in West Reading, Pennsylvania. He completed his undergraduate medical education at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, followed by an internship at that institution. Dr. Geng went on to complete a general surgery residency at St. Luke’s Hospital and Health System in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He subsequently earned his fellowship in Surgical Critical Care/Trauma at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is the Associate Trauma Program Medical Director at Reading, and has had a keen interest in education of medical students and surgical residents as well as his own advanced practitioners. |

She is the Immediate Past President of the American Trauma Society (ATS), Past President of the Society of Trauma Nurses (STN), and Past President of the Trauma Managers Association of California (TMAC). She has extensive experience in all aspects of trauma including clinical care, program management, trauma data, trauma performance improvement and patient safety, trauma systems, injury prevention, consultant for trauma centers and systems, educational curriculum development, conference and event planning and all trauma related issues across the continuum of care. She is the recipient of the STN’s Trauma Leadership Award. She is a member of the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) Training Project Team of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). She has been a survey team member for the ACS Trauma Systems and Evaluation Program. She has been an invited expert panel member for many national trauma initiatives and projects such as the ATS Leadership Forums, the screening & brief intervention for alcohol in trauma initiatives, the Model Trauma System Plan work group, to name a few. She has lectured on a wide variety of trauma related topics throughout the United States and internationally. She has extensive participation at the member and Chair levels for local, regional, state and national committees. She was the Chair of the Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses® (ATCN) Committee in Arizona for 6 years. She was then appointed the first Chair of the STN’s ATCN National-International Committee and spearheaded the special projects team to attain the ACS COT approval of the program as a collaborative effort with the ATLS Subcommittee. She was a member of the STN Board of Directors for over 8 years in the positions of Director at Large, Treasurer, President Elect and President. Carol Immermann, RN, BSN, CENTrauma Program ManagerSaint Marys Hospital, Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN Carol Immermann is the Trauma Program Manager at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, an ACS Level 1 and Pediatric Level 1 facility. Carol has over thirty years of nursing experience in a variety of clinical settings which includes urban and rural centers. Carol has been actively involved in the development of two state trauma systems and is a current member of the Minnesota State Trauma Advisory Council (STAC) and liaison to the Southern Minnesota Regional Trauma Advisory Committee (SMRTAC). Carol has been a STN member for several years and is the current co-chair of the Rural Trauma Special Interest Group. In this role she has partnered with the EAST Rural Trauma Ad Hoc Committee in providing education and resources for rural trauma centers. Carol is also part of the leadership group for T.O.P.I.C. and actively participated in the recent updates of the curriculum. Carol is actively involved in the mentoring of new trauma coordinators and program managers especially in the rural setting. |

Donald Jenkins, MD, FACSSenior Associate ConsultantTrauma Medical Director Mayo Clinic Rochester, Minnesota Dr. Jenkins served as the 2010 President of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST). In 2008, he retired from the U.S. Air Force after having served as the Trauma Medical Director at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. For over a decade, Dr. Jenkins was responsible for all trauma medical care and administration at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, the USAF's only American College of Surgeons Verified Level I Trauma Center. He was also the Flight Commander and Chairman of General Surgery for 59 MDW (59th Medical Wing - Wilford Hall). Currently, Dr. Jenkins is a Senior Associate Consultant for the Division of Trauma of Critical Care and Surgery for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnestoa, as well as the Trauma Medical Director and Associate Professor of Surgery in the College of Medicine there. He is also an Assistant Professor of Surgery for the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland. He is a nationally recognized speaker and peer-reviewed author, and has published multiple papers on topics that include pulmonary embolism prevention, organ donation and brain death, damage control in an austere environment, resuscitation end-points and tissue oxygenation, substance abuse and withdrawal in the ICU, trauma system development in a theater of war, and burn resuscitation guidelines. Dr. Jenkins received his BS in 1984 at the University of Scranton, Pennsylvania with a major in Biochemistry. He earned his MD in 1988 at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland, and performed his General Surgery Residency at Wilford Hall and Lackland AFB in 1988 and again from 1991-1996. He was a Trauma/Critical Care Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania in 1998. In 1999, Dr. Jenkins received the Diploma Medical Care of Catastrophes from the Society of Apothecaries of London. Dan Judkins, RN, MS, MPHTrauma Educator and Injury EpidemiologistUniversity of Arizona Medical Center, Tucson Dan Judkins has been the trauma educator at University of Arizona Medical Center, Tucson, for six years. He also serves as the injury epidemiologist, and leads out in a variety of injury prevention programs and projects. Earlier, Dan served as the Trauma Program Manager at UAMC for 16 years. UAMC is an ACS Level 1 trauma center. Prior to that Dan was emergency services director in three hospitals, and has been a director of nursing service in two hospitals. He also has significant experience in prehospital care and flight nursing, managing a country paramedic-level ambulance service for several years. Dan has both an MPH, and a MS degree in epidemiology. His interest is in bridging the gulf between injury epidemiology as a science and practical injury prevention strategies that work. Another of his current interests is the quest for better ways to teach trauma care providers. |

Sean Kennedy, BSN, RN, CENTrauma Performance Improvement Coordinator St. Vincent Trauma Center Indianapolis, Indiana Sean Kennedy is currently the Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator at St. Vincent Trauma Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. He received a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Xavier University, where he was awarded an Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps Scholarship. Upon graduating as a Distinguished Military Graduate, Sean accepted a commission into the United States Army. He served over six years in the military as an officer and registered nurse in multiple capacities, but primarily in critical care, emergency and trauma settings stateside and abroad. In May 2009, Sean deployed with the 10th Combat Support Hospital to Baghdad, Iraq as an Emergency Room Nurse. During his tour of duty, he also served with the 945th Forward Surgical Team at Forward Operating Base Garryowen, where he managed the EMT and ICU sections. Upon fulfillment of his active duty service obligation, Sean and his family relocated to Indianapolis, where he has assisted with the development of a recently verified Level II Trauma Program at St. Vincent Hospital. Sean has served as an instructor for the military’s Emergency/ Critical Care Nurse Course, the Trauma Nursing Core Course, and several local courses at St. Vincent Hospital including a Critical Care Transport Provider Course. |

Amy Koestner, RN, MSTrauma Program ManagerSpectrum Health Grand Rapids, MI Amy Koestner is the Trauma Program Manager at Spectrum Health, a level 1 Trauma Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Amy has a 30-year nursing career, with experience spanning the bedside in pediatric ICU, regional pediatric education, flight nursing, adult ICU bedside care, and the past 15 years in the role of trauma program manager. She has led multiple trauma centers through five ACS verification visits. Amy earned her BSN from Nazareth College, and her MSN from Wayne State University. Amy has been active in the Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) for over 10 years, serving in a variety of leadership roles, including past president in 2008. Her involvement in STN has included participation as an original author/ faculty member for the Optimal Trauma Center Organization & Management Course, as one of the key authors of the Senior Lifestyle & Injury Prevention (SLIP) course, as national & international faculty for the Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) course. She is the appointed STN chair liaison to the Committee on Trauma and a nurse reviewer for the ACS. Amy remains active as faculty for ATCN, the Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC), Rural Trauma Team Development Course (RTTDC), and speaks on trauma topics on a state and national level. Amy has been involved in trauma system development in Michigan through her leadership role in the Michigan Trauma Coalition and Regional Trauma Advisory Committee in West Michigan. |

Diana Kraus, RN, BSNTrauma Program ManagerSt. Louis Children’s Hospital St. Louis, MO Diana is currently the Manager of Trauma Services at St. Louis Children's Hospital. She has administrative responsibility for the trauma program at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma center. Diana is responsible for all aspects of providing optimal care for the injured child. This includes performance improvement activities, financial accountability, legislative initiatives, education and outreach. Diana is responsible for the trauma education for SLCH, as well as CME education for the physician liaisons and groups involved in trauma care. Diana has worked for the BJC organization since graduating from nursing school. Her experience includes 28 years of nursing, with 15 years of emergency care of in Level 1 Adult and Pediatric trauma centers, as well as 7 years of critical care pediatric transport. Diana has been involved with the State of Missouri in improving the trauma system as a committee member to the regional EMS committee, as well as the Chair of the Pediatric/EMSC Sub-committee. Diana is a nationally recognized speaker in the area of pediatric trauma and has presented at numerous regional, state and national conferences. |

Benjamin Laughton, RN, MSN, CRNPSenior Director of Nursing Informatics and the EPIC projectUniversity of Maryland Medical Center Baltimore, MD Mr. Laughton worked his way up from a bedside nurse in a busy inner-city emergency department to a Nurse Practitioner in a Surgical Intensive Care Unit. From there, Mr. Laughton moved to the role of Manager of Clinical Operations and Advanced Practice Nursing at the Shock Trauma Center where he directed the strategic advisory team, and was a leader in technology design and implementation. He also developed a robust nurse practitioner and physician assistant organization. Currently, Mr. Laughton serves as the Senior Director of Nursing Informatics and the EPIC project at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Mr. Laughton also served with the National Disaster Medical Support team NDMS-1 during Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma. Prior to entering healthcare worked as a mountain guide and rode his bicycle across the southern United States, through Mexico to Belize. Mr. Laughton speaks to and consults for organizations interested in modifying their clinical process to improve efficiency or expand services, and specializes in technology integration with clinical services, the development of multidisciplinary medical teams, and process improvement for trauma and emergency services. |

Pat Manion, RN, MSTrauma Program & Educational ConsultantFenton, Michigan Patricia A. Manion is an experienced educator, critical care nurse and trauma nurse. Her clinical and educator experience included many years of critical care in surgical, medical and cardiac critical care units. She then became a Trauma Program Manager, a position she held in two American College of Surgeons verified Trauma Centers. Most recently she has been employed as a project manager and an independent educator and consultant. A long time member of the ENA, she has been a TNCC Instructor and State Faculty, an officer including state president, and received the Emergency Nurse Excellence Award for 2004 from the Michigan ENA. Kathleen D. Martin, MSN, RN, CCRNTOPIC Committee ChairLandstuhl, Germany Kathleen Martin has over 35 years of experience in trauma care delivery. She is currently the Trauma Program Nurse Director at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany caring for combat casualties from Afghanistan. Her career has spanned diverse nursing positions including staff RN in the trauma ICU, trauma clinical nurse specialist, trauma program manager, consultant, trauma nurse site surveyor, and entrepreneur in her own consulting company. She has authored many research papers and book chapters, and her research interests include organ donation, trauma performance improvement (PI), and trauma systems. She is an active educator, teaching ATCN and the Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC), and has had numerous invited speaking engagements. She was the recipient of the Society of Trauma Nurses' (STN's) 2009 Distinguished Lectureship Award. Kathleen has served on the STN board of directors in various positions for 17 years and is a past president of STN. Her involvement with the STN has been as an original author/ faculty of the TOPIC and TOPIC-M course, Editor in Chief of the Journal of Trauma Nursing, and international faculty for the ATCN Course. She is a current member of the STN board of directors as the TOPIC Committee Chair. |

Judy Mikhail, RN, MSN, MBAProgram ManagerMichigan Trauma Quality Improvement Program (MTQIP) Department of Surgery University of Michigan Health System Ann Arbor, Michigan Judy Mikhail is currently the Program Manager for the Michigan Trauma Quality Improvement Program (MTQIP), which is based at the University of Michigan Health System, Ann Arbor. She has over 30 years of progressive trauma nursing experience, most recently as the administrator for Trauma, Bariatrics, and Neuroservices at Hurley Medical Center, a Level-1 Trauma in Flint, Michigan. She began her nursing career in the Burn Unit at Hurley, and progressed from surgical ICU staff nurse to clinical nurse specialist and ultimately a trauma program manager and trauma administrator. Judy earned her diploma in nursing from Hurley Medical Center School of Nursing, her BSN from the University of Michigan, and MSN from the University of Texas. In 2003, she completed work on her MBA from Colorado State University. Judy Mikhail is currently a full-time doctoral nursing student at the Medical University of South Carolina. She has been active in many professional organizations, including the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST), the American Burn Association (ABA), the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA), the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), and the Society of Trauma Nurses (STN). |
